On Saturday, May 14, twenty-six club members boarded a bus that took us to the beautiful city of Kingston, Ontario and to the famous “Golden Rooster” restaurant.
En route, we played various versions of “Bingo” professionally called by our President, Ted Hansen. The winners received a free trip to Denmark (imaginary) with the proviso that Ted would go along to carry our baggage.
It was a rainy day, but the sun shined brightly as soon as we arrived at the restaurant. Waiting for us were our friends Elizabeth and Ken Birch, who just returned to Canada.
Lunch was served – it was delicious. The first open face sandwich was herring. For those that did not want herring, Pia graciously offered an alternative. The second sandwich was shrimp – which only Danes can make so appetizing. Our final sandwich was a choice of roast beef, or rullepølse, or liver pate. To end the lunch, we were served a delicious wienerbrød –tenderly baked by Orla – with either coffee or tea.
After lunch we collected the items that we had reserved and boarded the bus which took us to
Westport for a bit of shopping. Unfortunately because of the rain, we did not do any sightseeing. We arrived back in Ottawa at 6:15 p.m.
We wish to thank Ted Hansen for organizing this wonderful event and hope that other such trips could become a regular part of our club‟s activities.
