Det_gamle_guldYou are invited to join us for lunch and a movie in the Church Hall, 272 Crichton Street, Ottawa, on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 12:30 pm. We will start with a Danish-style lunch consisting of various snitter, smaller Danish open-face sandwiches on rye or white bread, accompanied by a beverage of your choice. We’ll finish with coffee/tea and dessert.

With our hunger satisfied we will have a short introduction to Morten Korch (1876-1954), a popular and prolific Danish writer, by Rolf Christensen. Morten Korch wrote about 120 books and 19 of them were made into motion pictures.

The film we have chosen is“Det gamle Guld” which gives an excellent picture of farm life in Denmark after the Second World War. This movie from 1951 stars Poul Reichhardt as Niels. Two questions, among others, are: will Niels be able to keep the family farm and which girl will he marry? “Det gamle Guld” also features Tove Maës, Peter Malberg and Ib Schønberg – as well as Morten Korch himself. The movie also contains the popular song “Jeg har min hest, jeg har min lasso”. The movie is in Danish. Unfortunately, there are no subtitles.

The cost is $10 per person, which includes lunch, beverage, coffee/tea, dessert and the movie.

Please register by Friday, March 14, 2014, by phoning Bodil Jensen at 613-224-8052.
