Nordic Walk for Cancer Survivorship – October 30, 2011

On October 30, 2011, poles will be hitting the pavement for Canada’s FIRST Scotiabank- TELUS Nordic Walk for Cancer Survivorship in support of the new Maplesoft Centre.

With each step taken and each dollar raised, you will ensure that thousands of local cancer patients and their families have access to the Maplesoft Centre and the innovative and inspirational programs that will be offered free of charge.

It‟s walking … only BETTER! Nordic Walking is like walking, with a twist – or more accurately – with POLES! Specially designed poles allow you to turn your regular evening stroll into an entire body workout. Did you know 30 minutes of pole walking is equivalent to 50 minutes of regular walking?

Just by adding poles to your walk you will:
 help distribute weight and lessen the load with which each foot hits the ground by 26% -which makes a big difference for those of us with back, hip, knee, ankle or feet problems.
 naturally align your spine and strengthen your core with each step – helping you to stand and sit taller.
 increase your heart and cardio-vascular rate by 20% and burn up to 48% more calories without any more effort.

When you register for the Scotiabank-TELUS Nordic Walk for Cancer SurvivorshipTM you are dedicating your time to help family, friends and colleagues living with cancer right here in our community. You are also making a commitment to yourself, taking control of your health and reducing your risks of getting cancer.

Your registration includes:

 Free pair of Nordixx Walking Poles
 Free introductory Nordic Walking Training Clinic
 Event t-shirt
